We build PDF tools that never take your files away from you.
orb2bit is a small, independent software studio. We make one kind of thing — document tools — and we make them work the way we would want them to work ourselves: fast, private, and without a sign-up wall in front of the button you came to press.
Why we started
Almost every "free online PDF tool" works the same way: you upload your document to somebody else's server, it sits in a queue, and you get a download link back. That is fine for a flyer. It is not fine for a signed contract, a payslip, a medical letter or a scan of your passport — and those are exactly the documents people need to split, merge or redact.
Modern browsers can do all of that work locally. So we built the tools that way instead. On orb2bitpdf.com your PDF is opened, changed and saved by your own browser; it is never uploaded to us. The same principle runs through the Windows software and the Android app, which do everything offline on your own machine.
What we make
- The web tools — eighteen PDF tools that run in the browser: split, merge, compress, edit, crop, watermark, organise pages, create PDFs from images and Word files, add page numbers, redact, extract text, view, convert to Office formats, translate, password-protect, repair, sign and turn Word documents into PDFs.
- Orb2Bit PDF for Windows — the desktop version, with in-place text editing, certificate signing, Office-to-PDF conversion and a version history that keeps a snapshot before every overwrite.
- Orb2Bit PDF for Android — the same toolkit on a phone, plus a document scanner that uses the camera, OCR so scans become searchable, and read-aloud.
- PDF Downloader — saves view-only Google Drive documents you have access to as a proper PDF file. It lives on orb2bit.com, our studio site.
How the free tools are paid for
Two ways, and we would rather say both out loud than bury them. Pages on this site carry advertising served by Google AdSense. And there is an optional Premium subscription that removes the file-size limit on saves, removes every ad, and works across the web, Android and Windows with one Google sign-in.
What we do not do: sell your data, read your documents, or e-mail you things you did not ask for. There is nothing to sell — the documents never reach us in the first place. The details are in the privacy policy.
How we work
orb2bit is independently run and self-funded — there is no investor deadline pushing features out before they are ready. Tools ship when they behave correctly on real, messy documents: the 400-page scan, the file with rotated pages, the PDF someone protected and forgot the password to. Each tool gets a page of its own explaining what it does, what it cannot do, and when you would reach for it.
Everything on this site is free to try without an account. Sign-in exists only so a Premium subscription can follow you between devices.
